RCB keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik gave a cheeky reaction when speaking of the Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir rivalry. The most famed man-to-man rivalry in the IPL will resume on Friday at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, when Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be hosting Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders.
In a video for RCB, while previewing the match, Dinesh Karthik was asked about the key match-ups to watch out for in the game. Instead of starting with a batter and a bowler, Karthik made a funny mention of Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, who is the mentor of KKR.
Tempers could once again flare between the two lads from Delhi, who have had some epic battles in the past on and off the field.
In a video for RCB, Dinesh Karthik was asked to pick the three most exciting match-ups. While DK picked two bowler vs batter match-ups, he also named the Kohli vs Gambhir saga to resume tonight.
“Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir (smiles). Mitchell Starc to Glenn Maxwell will be very interesting. Varun Chakravarthy to me (Dinesh Karthik) will be very interesting,” Dinesh Karthik said in RCB’s match preview.

Someone has a broadcaster working for him: Gautam Gambhir
Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have had some ugly spats in IPL 2013 and IPL 2023. Off the field, Gambhir has at times targetted – directly and indirectly – Kohli’s captaincy stint where he couldn’t win a single IPL title for RCB or an ICC trophy with Team India.
Last year, they had a mega-clash, not once but twice. After LSG defeated RCB at the Chinnaswamy, Gambhir was seen shushing the crowd. In the return fixture, Kohli returned the favour with some gestures of his own.
Toward the end of the game, Kohli and pacer Naveen-ul-Haq had an altercation, which then spilled on after the match as well with Gambhir getting involved. Gambhir and Kohli had a huge battle after the match in Lucknow.
Speaking on that incident, Gambhir said on ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, “It is not about Naveen-ul-Haq. I would have defended any player, that is my job, that is how I am. Why should I not defend my players just because someone has a broadcaster working for him, left right and centre, someone who has more social media presence doesn’t have any right to walk over someone. If I cannot stand with my players, then I have no right to be in that dressing room.”
