Watch: Glenn Maxwell Takes A Stunning One-Handed Catch In AUS vs NZ ODI

Last updated:

The Australian cricket team made a stunning start to their one-day clash against the New Zealand cricket team with Glenn Maxwell making everyone’s jaw drop with a stunning screamer. Glenn Maxwell stole the show as he held onto an  “unbelievable” one-handed catch in the first ODI at Cazalys Stadium.

The stunning incident took place when the New Zealand cricket team was at 0/10 in the fifth over when Mitchell Starc found the outside edge of Martin Guptill’s bat, with the ball flying towards the gully region. The ball got almost past Maxwell, however, he flung out his left hand and plucked it out of thin air to remove the destructive Guptill for just six from 19 balls. It was the start the Australian side needed after winning the toss.

Maxwell is hailed as one of Australia’s best fielders over the past decade and on Tuesday, his one-handed screamer made everyone jump off their seats.

Former New Zealand wicketkeeper Ian Smith cried on Fox Cricket commentary: “What a catch! What a standard,”

“Maxwell, who else?”

Former Australian spinner Kerry O‘Keeffe continued: “What a weapon he is in the gully. What a talent.”

Australian teammate Nathan Lyon said: “That is a brilliant catch … it’s such a hard position to field to Starcy, especially when he’s bowling full and he’s bowling fast.

“That’s an unbelievable catch.”
