India captain Rohit Sharma scolded Sarfaraz Khan like a big brother during day 3 of the Ranchi Test against England after the youngster initially refused to wear a helmet while fielding at the silly point position.

When Shoaib Bashir came to bat during England’s second innings, Sarfaraz was positioned at the silly point position, which is a hot catching spot. Sarfaraz and Bashir had earlier in England’s first innings exchanged a banter as well and maybe he wanted to sledge the English youngster a bit more. Sarfaraz initially showed reluctance to wear a helmet.

While Sarfaraz Khan may feel he was being brave or courageous, it was injudicious thinking by the youngster because it was risky and one hit on the head could lead to serious implications.

Rohit Sharma, the captain, who was fielding at first slip, scolded Sarfaraz and told him to wear a helmet for his own protection.

In his typical Bambaiya accent, Rohit Sharma told Sarfaraz, “Aye, hero nai banne ka (hey, don’t be a hero here)”.

Obeying his skipper, Sarfaraz called for a helmet and took his fielding position.

The video of this incident has gone viral. Fans praised Rohit for schooling Sarfaraz about rules and safety.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal get India off to a quick start in the chase of 192.

R Ashwin’s five-wicket haul and Kuldeep Yadav’s four-wicket haul helped India bowl England out for 145, and since England had taken a first-innings lead of 46 runs, India were set a target of 192 runs.

In a tricky period of the last 25 minutes of the day, Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal took on the England spinners and scored 40 runs in 8 overs, the pair cracking 5 boundaries, four coming off Rohit’s bat.

India need 152 more runs to seal the series in Ranchi, before the 5th Test in Dharamsala.
