Pakistan’s Saim Ayub has had quite a few forgettable moments from his Test debut against Australia at the SCG.
After being dismissed for a duck in his debut Test innings and dropping a simple catch of David Warner, Saim Ayub took a nasty tumble in the outfield while fielding during Australia’s first innings.
On the second ball of the 65th over of Australia’s innings, Steve Smith skipped down the pitch and lofted off-spinner Sajid Khan over Ayub, who was standing at mid-off. He ran after the ball and put in a needless slide when he got near the ball to pick it up.
However, his left knee got stuck in the ground and he took a nasty, horrific-looking tumble. A chunk of the ground he hit came out. Despite the discomfort, Ayub got up quickly and threw back the ball. The commentators expressed their concern at the accident, but Ayub didn’t flinch much and walked back to his fielding position calmly.

Meanwhile, Pakistan had taken a slender 14-run first innings lead after bowling Australia out for 299 through Aamer Jamal’s heroic six-wicket haul. However, Pakistan have ceded the chance of putting up a match-winning target, as it seems so, after Australia cracked them up open. By stumps on Day 3, Pakistan are 68/7 with a lead of 82 runs.
Their last three wickets came in one over of Josh Hazlewood. At the end of the day, Hazlewood said that Australia would be happy chasing a target around 130 runs as the pitch has deteriorated.
Hazlewood said: “Lead of 82, as you see the wicket, it’s quite tough. Anything around 130 would be ideal to chase. Rizwan is a dangerous player, hopefully we will see the back of him early tomorrow.”
