Former Indian stumper Deep Dasgupta hilariously trolled Ben Stokes, taking a cheeky dig at the England captain after he was saved by an umpire’s call in England’s second innings in Ranchi.

Ben Stokes’ comments about the umpire’s call – the England suggested it should be scrapped – after the heavy defeat in Rajkot where Zak Crawley was dismissed by a very tight umpire’s call decision, had been a talking point since last week.

Those comments have also lingered well into the Ranchi Test as the umpire’s call has been a key feature during the fourth game. Ironically, a number of umpire’s call decisions in Ranchi Test have gone England’s way, including one of Ben Stokes himself.

In England’s second innings, Ravindra Jadeja got one to beat Stokes’ bat and rap him on his pads. The on-field umpire gave it not out, and upon being challenged by Rohit Sharma with a DRS, it showed to be umpire’s call on contact with the stumps, thus saving Stokes.

Ben Stokes won’t be complaining now: Deep Dasgupta

Ben Stokes gave a wry smile after he saw that it was umpire’s call. In the commentary box. Deep Dasgupta didn’t hold his punches and said the England skipper won’t complain now about the umpire’s call since it has saved his wicket.

“Not too long back he was complaining about umpire’s call, Ben Stokes. I’m sure he won’t be complaining now,” Deep Dasgupta said in commentary.

Former England batsman Nick Knight concurred, saying, “Maybe that’s why he’s got a wry smile on his face.”

However, Stokes wasn’t able to make much of his reprieve as he was dismissed for only 4 runs by Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep also got a ball to turn and hit Stokes’ pad, but the ball rolled onto the stumps and the left-hander was bowled.

Meanwhile, heading into day 4, India need 152 more runs to win the Ranchi Test and seal the series.
