World Cup 2015, India vs West Indies: 4 key battles to watch out for

As people across India prepare for Holi, there will be many who will be glued to the television screen to watch the India vs West Indies ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at 12 noon. India take on a ‘charged-up’ West Indies team which has won two of their last three matches in the World Cup in Perth on Friday.

Darren Sammy Trolls India

1) Chris Gayle vs Ravichandran Ashwin

Chris Gayle announced his comeback in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 with a mammoth 215 against Zimbabwe. Gayle is one of the most dangerous hitters in the modern game and he will be India’s top target in this clash. India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has a good record against Chris Gayle and MS Dhoni would be tempted to give him the new ball. Ashwin is also in red-hot form in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. He has picked eight wickets at an average of 13 in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 so far.

2) Shikhar Dhawan vs Jerome Taylor

Jerome Taylor has adapted well to the bouncy condition in Australia and he is West Indies’ most successful bowler in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 so far. Taylor has 9 wickets in 4 matches at an average of 20. On the other hand, Dhawan, who faced a lot of criticism for his poor form before the start of the tournament, is India’s leading run-scorer in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 after 3 matches. Dhawan has scored 224 runs in 3 matches at an average of 74.67.

3) Marlon Samuels vs Ravindra Jadeja

Marlon Samuels is West Indies’ second highest run-scorer in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 after Chris Gayle. Samuels has the potential of changing the momentum of the game in to time with his power hitting. India will surely have a special plan for Samuels and Ravindra Jadeja’s left-arm orthodox will surely be one of the key weapons for MS Dhoni. It would be interesting to see how Jadeja reacts if Samuels decides to go after him.

4) Rohit Sharma vs Jason Holder

Rohit Sharma, after consecutive failures in the first two matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, finally got the much needed time in the middle against UAE. On the other hand, Jason Holder, who has been more at the receiving end in this tournament, will look to make early damage with the new ball. Jason Holder has five wickets to his name from four games at an average of almost 44.
