The Netherlands cricket team registered their first win of the ongoing 2023 World Cup on Tuesday, October 17, causing a huge upset in the process. They defeated South Africa by 38 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
The Dutch team also defeated South Africa at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia last year, resulting in the Proteas team’s elimination from the tournament.

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards played an instrumental role in helping his side win the game. In fact, Scott Edwards turned the match when he walked out to bat. The Netherlands were all set to finish under 200 runs but the skipper had other ideas. Scott played a sensational knock of 78* runs. He held the fort at one side and when his side suffered a collapse. He played a captain’s knock and helped the team to post a respectable total.
Scott Edwards and the Dutch tail wag to add around 100 runs in the final 10 overs to put up a competitive score. It gave momentum to the side who then turned up with the ball as well.
Roelof van der Merwe (29) and Aryan Dutt (23*) played crucial cameos to help their side. Later, the Dutch bowling line-up put on wonderful collective efforts to bundle out South Africa for 42.5 overs and register a memorable ODI victory. Logan van Beek picked up 3 wickets, while Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede scalped two wickets apiece.
Later, Scott won the Man of the Match award for his brilliant performance. The Netherlands also created history and made the most dangerous batting line-up of this World Cup look like freshers against the Dutch quality bowling.
