WPL 2024: Ellyse Perry Receives The Car Glass She Broke As A Gift

Australia star Ellyse Perry is ruling the WPL 2024 season – she’s carried the RCB Women’s team to the WPL final, with consistent blockbuster all-round performances.

Amid her heroics with the bat in the tournament, Ellyse Perry shattered the window of a car of the sponsors at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium during the game against UP Warriorz. That created an epic moment as this was the first instance – in men’s IPL or WPL – that a batter had broken the car glass completely with his/her sixer.

After Perry took RCB to the WPL final, with a win over defending champions Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator, the sponsor, TATA, presented the glass as a gift to Ellyse Perry.

At the Arun Jaitley stadium on Friday night, following RCB’s Eliminator win over Harmanpreet Kaur’s side, a representative from TATA gifted Perry a frame in which the pieces of the glass were glued together. The RCB and Aussie great had a huge smile on her face as she received this special and unique award.

Ellyse Perry has put on back to back sensational performances against the defending champions Mumbai Indians. In the league match, she picked up a stunning six-wicket haul. And then in the Eliminator, the Australian scored 66 runs and took the wicket of MI opener Yastika Bhatia.

RCB won the Eliminator by only 5 runs in a last-over thriller to seal their place in the WPL 2024 final against Delhi Capitals.

Perry said: “We are ecstatic to get an opportunity to be in the final. To defend a low total like that is awesome. The girls kept calm and pretty awesome performance from the spinners at the end. You gotta take the opportunity when it comes. Nice for me the last couple of games, it has fallen my way. The way we stayed calm against such a good side is exceptional.

“The way the girls have come together after last season and we have really enjoyed each other’s company on the field and off it. Overall we hung in there, the girls kept contributing, the old adage of runs on the board in a big game holds true I suppose and it did tonight. Can’t wait [for the final].”
