Young Indian opener Shubman Gill‘s dismissal on Day 4 in the second innings of the ongoing World Test Championship Final 2023 has become one of the most talked about topics in the ongoing game. The controversial catch taken by Cameron Green that led to Gill’s dismissal has started a full-fledged debate, with several experts and former cricketers joining in with their own takes.

The Controversial Catch:

The dismissal took place in the eighth over of India’s chase of 444 when Gill tried to negotiate the long ball from Scott Boland. As Australia seamer Scott Boland found Gill’s outside edge and Cameron Green lumped to his right side to hold onto the ball at 3rd slip. The catch sparked off a controversy as TV replays seemed to suggest that it had been grassed but the third umpire ruled the decision in favor of Australia. Soon after the third umpire’s decision, the crowd started booing and Shubman Gill had to walk back to the pavilion.

Shubman Gill’s Reaction

While the experts and fans remained divided over the catch, the fans who were present at the stadium to support the Indian cricket team broke into ‘cheater’ chants for the Australians. Shubman Gill too took to his social media and responded to the controversial decision taken by the third umpire. He shared an internet-breaking post moments after the end of Day 4.

Cameron Green’s Take On The Controversial Catch

While the reaction of Gill and all the Indian supporters is quite natural and justifiable, Cameron Green was probably the only person who gave the best and the most accurate take on the controversial catch. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Green said:

“At the time I definitely thought I caught it,” Green said. “I think in the heat of the moment, I thought it was clean and threw it up and showed no sign of any doubt. And then it’s left up to the third umpire (Kettleborough) and he agreed.”
