Yuvraj Singh Penned A Heartfelt Note On The 11th Anniversary Of World Cup Triumph: “MS Dhoni finishes off in style. A magnificent strike into the crowd! India lift the World Cup after 28 years! The party start in the dressing room,” these words from Ravi Shastri are etched in the memory of every cricket fan as they described the winning moment of the Indian side as they won cricket’s biggest prize.
11 years ago, on this day, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the Indian cricket team led by MS Dhoni created history as they defeated Sri Lanka by 6-wickets to lift the ODI World Cup after 28 years. The fans across the country came out on the streets to celebrate India’s momentous achievement as MS Dhoni’s side ended a long wait to win their 2nd World Cup title.
While MS Dhoni (91 off 79 balls) was magnificent on the night of the big final, Gautam Gambhir (97 off 122 balls) played arguably the most important innings of his life to help team India win the prestigious trophy. Apart from these two, everyone in the team including the likes of Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, and Zaheer Khan, among others, played crucial roles in helping team India create a history that night.
Meanwhile, as the country is celebrating the World Cup win anniversary today, social media has been flooded with tributes and nostalgic posts from fans and cricketers alike. Among many, world cup hero Yuvraj Singh, who gave his heart, blood, and sweat to India during that World Cup tournament, also took to his social media and posted a heartfelt tweet.
