In the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, David Warner will be expected to take on a leadership role.
Since Rishabh Pant is still recovering from his injuries sustained in a car accident, he will be taking charge of the Delhi Capitals in the meantime.
Warner’s statistics show that he is one of the best hitters in IPL history.
In 2023, he has a shot at all of these records.
Taking a look at his IPL stats
Warner is currently the third-highest run-getter in IPL history, with 5,881 runs in 162 games (SR: 140.69).
His average of 42 is second best among IPL batters who have scored at least 1,000 runs, behind only KL Rahul (48.01).
His 59 scores of 50 or more are the most of any IPL player. He has 55 fifties and 4 centuries in his collection.
The next closest batter has only 50 such hits.
Warner is loading up with 6,000 runs.
Warner needs only 119 more runs to become the first player in IPL history to score 6,000 runs.
This record is currently held only by Virat Kohli (6,624) and Shikhar Dhawan (6,244).
This can be accomplished by Rohit Sharma (5,879) next year.
No other active player, meanwhile, has scored 5,000 or more runs in the IPL.
Among international players in the IPL, Warner has scored the most runs.
Warner: “Can we script the past?”
Importantly, Warner can potentially make history by leading two different teams to the IPL title.
He captained Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a championship in 2016.
In addition to leading them to the postseason in 2017, he did the same in 2020.
Warner has been the captain for 35 of his team’s 69 victories in the IPL (excluding Super Over wins).
Can add his name alongside Shikhar Dhawan
Warner needs to score 133 runs in order to reach 2,000 for the Delhi franchise.
The southpaw scored 4,014 runs for SRH and is only one run short of becoming the second player in IPL history (after Shikhar Dhawan) to score 2,000 runs for two different teams.
Both SRH (2,518) and DC (2,066) are under his baton.
Both Warner and Dhawan are SRH veterans.
