Kuldeep Yadav and R Ashwin shared a very classy moment of mutual respect after bundling England out for 218 runs on day 1 of the Dharamsala Test. The duo combined to pick 9 wickets and asked each other to take the ball, but eventually, it was Kuldeep who led the team off the field after England’s innings.
India and England kicked off the fifth and last Test of the series on Thursday morning in the most picturesque ground in the country in Dharamsala. England got off to a good start with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley putting up a 64-run opening stand before Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Duckett.
Kuldeep Yadav kept chipping away with wickets. England were in a decent position at 175/3, but from thereon, they slipped and collapsed to 218 all-out. Kuldeep took 5 of the first six wickets to fall, while Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Joe Root. R Ashwin, playing in his 100th Test match, scalped the last four England wickets to fall.
After England’s innings, Kuldeep and Ashwin shared a great moment wherein both showed respect to each other. Usually, the bowler who takes a five-for leads the team off the field and shows the ball to the crowd, but Kuldeep insisted that Ashwin do that duty as this was his 100th Test.
But R Ashwin, the senior bowler, wasn’t budging and told Kuldeep Yadav to march the team because he had taken a five-wicket haul. R Ashwin gave the ball to Kuldeep and finally, the wrist-spinner led the team off the field. The commentators, in particular Harsha Bhogle, admired this mutual respect from the two spinners, one much more senior than the other.
