IPL 2022: Here’s What Rohit Sharma Said About MS Dhoni

The “El Classico of IPL“, as they said, turned out to be an enthralling experience for the cricket lovers as the contest between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians turned out to be a blockbuster one. Though, both the teams have endured a forgetful season this time, but the clash between the two was not an inch less entertainment. And to add a cherry on the top, it was MS Dhoni, who turned back the clock and finished the game for his side.

As the game began, CSK opted to bowl first and started the game with a bang as Mukesh Chaudhary made the new ball talk. He picked three wickets early in the powerplay. Throughout their innings, Mumbai was always behind the 8-ball and after a top and middle-order batting collapse, Mumbai managed to put a decent total of 155 runs in the end.

Chasing a target of 156 runs to win, Chennai needed 17 runs off the last over, which was bowled by Jaydev Unadkat to get the result in its favor. Unadkat dismissed well-set Dwaine Pretorius on the first ball in order to take Mumbai Indians closer to their first win of the ongoing season. Though, the game almost slipped from CSK’s hands, however, things changed as soon as MS Dhoni took charge from the third ball and smashed the 30-year-old pacer for 6, 4, 2, and 4 to win the game for his side.

Meanwhile, the cricket fraternity was left in awe of MS Dhoni after the veteran as he played a late blitz to help his side register their second win of the ongoing season.

Impressed with his performance, the captain of Mumbai Indians – Rohit Sharma also lauded the brilliance of MS Dhoni – the greatest finisher. He said:

In the end it was a great fight from us, we were in the game after not batting well, the bowlers kept us in, but in the end you know how towering MSD can be and he took them home.”

“It’s hard to put a finger on anything, but we’re not starting well in the match. If you lose quick wickets, you’ll always be playing the catching game. But I thought we did well to keep them under pressure, we did so until the last over, but Pretorius and Dhoni took them home. We always back ourselves to do well, but as I said, we lost too many early wickets, we did make a good comeback with both bat and ball, but it wasn’t enough in the end”

During the post-match presentation, CSK’s captain Ravindra Jadeja showered praises on the former captain for his terrific finishing skills. He said:

“Actually we were very tense, the way the game was going, but at some stage we knew that the great finisher of the game was there and if he played to the last ball, he can definitely finish the match. He (Dhoni) showed the world that he’s still here and he can finish the game.”
