World Cup 2023: Here Are The 7 Teams That Have Qualified, Everything You Need To Know About The Tournament In India

After a gap of 12 years, India will be hosting the 2023 ODI World Cup in October-November next year.

England is the defending champions having won the tournament in 2019, at Lord’s, defeating New Zealand on a boundary count after the regular game and the Super Over both were tied. Before that, Australia won the 2015 ODI World Cup and India in 2011 – both at home. So the last three ODI World Cups have been won by the home teams. The billion-plus Indian fans will be hoping that this tradition continues in 2023 too.


As hosts, India has directly qualified for the tournament. Six other teams have also qualified: Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s qualifying over the likes of South Africa, West Indies, and Sri Lanka signals great progress for them in world cricket.


The ODI Super League began in July 2020 is for the 13 teams vying for 10 spots at the 2023 World Cup. It has been running for more than two years now, with nearly three-fourths of the matches completed. Apart from 12 Test-playing nations, the Netherlands are also part of this.
The top 8 teams will directly qualify for the 2023 World Cup, while the teams that finish bottom 5 in the table will have to go through a Qualifier in Zimbabwe in June 2023 for the two remaining slots.


India are leading the ODI Super League table followed by England, New Zealand, and Australia. Sri Lanka’s chances are hanging by a thread, while South Africa and West Indies may not qualify directly and might have to play in the qualifiers later in 2023 before the tournament.
