ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Ravichandran Ashwin’s Grandfather Passes Away

ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Ravichandran Ashwin’s grandfather S Narayanasamy died in Chennai due to age-related illness on Sunday.

Ashwin’s grandfather was 92 years old and his last rites were performed on Sunday. S Narayanasamy was a former Southern Railway employee and a cricket lover. Ashwin’s father told media that his grandfather played a great role in motivating him during his early years.

Ashwin is presently in England with Team India and preparing for the all important ICC Champions Trophy 2107. This is a very big loss for him and we hope he stays strong and focus on his game. Ashwin is a complete family man who likes being with his wife, daughters and parents, whenever he can.

Ashwin is coming back from an injury and he would be keen on improving his record in England. He is a top quality spinner who has troubled some of the best batsmen in the world with his spin. In Asian conditions, Ashwin is probably India’s biggest strength. But, outside Asia, specially in places like England, where there is very little assistance for spinners, Ashwin has struggled to take wickets so far in his career.

However, in his interviews leading up ICC Champions Trophy 2017, he has said that he is working on a  new delivery which he will use in the tournament for the first time.

We pray to god to give R Ashwin and his family the strength to bear this loss. May S Narayanasamy’s soul rest in peace.
