IND vs AUS: “Disappointing” was an understatement from Rohit Sharma following the 10-wicket thrashing that India got in the 2nd ODI from the hands of Australia, who leveled the series now 1-1 heading into the 3rd and series-deciding game, which will be played in Chennai on Wednesday.
The match, in Visakhapatnam, was virtually decided even before Australia’s innings began as Mitchell Starc and other Aussie pacers had bundled the hosts out for only 117, which is now India’s third-lowest total in ODIs against Australia and their 4th lowest in ODIs at home.
Mitchell Starc continued to bowl on his tempo that he’d left in the first ODI at the Wankhede. While there Australia didn’t have enough runs and KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja took India home, here, in Vizag, Starc was again unplayable, and his success rubbed onto this fellow pacers, not named Cummins and Hazlewood, but Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis, both of whom are looking to make their cases strong for the ODI World Cup squad later in the year in India.

Mitchell Starc was almost unplayable by the Indian batters today

Starc dismissed Gill in the 1st over, the opener falling to a loose shot as he did in the first ODI: chipping it to Labuschagne at point. Rohit also played a poor shot: flaying his bat outside off and edging to Smith.
Suryakumar Yadav, like in Mumbai, was out lbw for a first-ball duck by Starc, who also then dismissed KL Rahul, lbw, before cleaning up Siraj to complete his five-fer.
Virat Kohli looked the best of the top order batters and survived the Starc spell but Ellis got him lbw with a delivery that seamed in sharply. Abbott got rid of Pandya and Shami, taking both of their outside edges. Abbott also dismissed Kuldeep while Ellis had Jadeja.
Bowled out for only 117, India would have hoped for their pacers to replicate what the Aussie pacers did. But the story was completely opposite: Mitchell Marsh (66 off 36) and Travis Head (51 off 30) barely gave a chance and smoked 16 boundaries and 6 sixes (all by Marsh) to complete the chase in only 11 overs.
As expected, memes galore on Twitter with this embarrassing, humbling defeat of India by Australia.
