The IPL 2023 league phase has just crossed its halfway stage, and the difference between the top and bottom-placed teams have been clear. While the likes of CSK, GT, and RR have been composed, well-rounded bowling variety and comprising attacking batters, the bottom 4 of KKR, SRH, MI, and DC have lacked cohesion and consistency despite all of them boasting world-class match-winners.
Some of the performers from the bottom 4 teams have been disappointing and have not lived up to the expectations.

Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw has had a terrible first half of the Indian Premier League 2023. The dynamic Delhi Capitals opener has averaged only 7.83 in 6 innings – even Anrich Nortje averaged 11 in 5 innings – before being eventually dropped from the side. Shaw has been dismissed twice for a duck, has three single-digit scores, and has a highest of 15.
He could make a comeback later on in the tournament, but this poor run of form has really hurt his chances of a comeback in the Indian team.
Umran Malik
After a breakthrough season last year where he took 22 wickets in IPL 2022 and made his India debut, SRH fast bowler Umran has had a shocker of an Indian Premier League 2023 so far. The fastest Indian bowler in the tournament, Malik, has managed to pick up 5 wickets in 6 matches at a slightly expensive economy of 9.62. Malik hasn’t really taken the Indian Premier League 2023 by storm as he did last season.
Mitchell Marsh
Australian all-rounder Marsh hasn’t had the kind of IPL as expected with his form during the India-Australia ODI series before the tournament began. Then, Marsh had been bludgeoning the Indian bowlers, while in the Indian Premier League 2023, the right-hander has managed only 31 runs in 5 innings at an average of 6.2 – the terribly out-of-form Prithvi Shaw has a better average than Marsh. His bowling, though, has added some value.
Jofra Archer
He may have played just 2 matches so far – missing 5 games due to a “niggle” and for not being well – but Jofra Archer has failed to make the impact in his 2 outings that his reputation promised. He’s managed only 1 wicket and has leaked at 9.37 runs per over.
Umesh Yadav
The veteran KKR pacer Umesh Yadav has been shockingly disappointing this season. Yes, the pitches haven’t been conducive to pace bowling in the first half of the tournament, but his numbers – just 1 wicket in 8 matches – are as poor as it could get. Umesh has been thwarted around for 9.94 runs per over.
