India vs Zimbabwe: BCCI announce 16-member squad

The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) on Monday announced India’s squad for the upcoming tour to Zimbabwe. Many senior players have been rested but India’s limited-overs captain MS Dhoni has been picked and he will lead a young side in Zimbabwe. The selectors have picked a very young side and the good performance in IPL 2016 have been rewarded. The likes of KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jayant Yadav and others have been picked to represent India.

One surprise was the exclusion of Mumbai Indian revelation Krunal Pandya. Krunal was a consistent performer for Mumbai Indians and many thought that he was on his way towards joining his brother as an Indian international. Krunal batted very aggressively and scored 237 runs at an average of 39.50 and a strike rate of nearly 200. Krunal also showed that he can be an useful spin option as well as he picked up six wickets in his first IPL season, to go along with his runs.

Here is the complete squad:

MS Dhoni (c & wk), Lokesh Rahul, Faiz Faizal, Manish Pandey, Karun Nair, Ambati Rayudu, Rishi Dhawan, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jasprit Bumrah, Barinder Sran, Mandeep Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Jaydev Unadkat, Yuzvendra Chahal
