Virat Kohli century leads India to massive first innings total
At the Queen’s Park Oval on Friday, Kohli ended another long wait: the wait for an away Test century. His last away Test hundred had come in the December 2018 Test in Perth, which is one of Virat Kohli’s best and most memorable Test centuries.
Playing in his milestone 500th game for India, Kohli ended that wait by scoring 121 runs from 206 balls, his patient-filled innings including 11 fours, in Port of Spain. This was his 15th Test hundred out of the 29 career Test centuries. His ton helped India to the total of 438 in the first innings.
Kohli equaled Don Bradman’s tally of 29 Test hundreds. This was his 76th international century, and he’s only behind Sachin Tendulkar‘s tally of 100 hundreds.
“I am grateful to play 500 games for India. I never imagined. It’s all hard work. It’s the commitment you give to the sport you are playing which gives you the result,” he added.
On scoring an away hundred after 5 years, Kohli said: “These are things for others to talk. I have got 15 hundreds away from home, that’s not a bad record. I have got more hundreds away than at home. The key is to do well to the best of my ability. We haven’t played 30 matches away from home and I have got a few fifty-plus scores.”
