Shubman Gill has become one of the hottest topics in the cricket fraternity as he recently became the fifth Indian batter to score a double century in an ODI match. The stylish young opener broke Ishan Kishan’s record to become the youngest batter to score a double century in the ODI format. Gill’s inning is being hailed as one of the finest knocks ever in ODI cricket history as he single-handedly helped India post a huge total of 349 runs on the board.

He played a mighty knock of 208 runs off 145 runs as he smashed the Kiwi bowlers all over the ground and displayed some stunning shots. His knock was laced with 19 fours and 9 sixes. With this knock, Gill joined the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan in the elite list of Indian batsmen to hit a double-century in ODIs.

Interestingly, The fact that makes his knock of 208 runs even more special is the fact that the second-highest score by an Indian batter in the series opener was 34, which was scored by Rohit Sharma. 10 out of 11 batters got a chance to bat in that ODI game, but none of them except Shubman were able to breach the 50 mark. While wickets kept falling at the non-striker’s end, Gill stood firm and played one of the most stunning knocks of his career.

Meanwhile, after his record-breaking show against New Zealand, Indian players along with head coach Rahul Dravid hailed his knock. In a video shared by the BCCI, team India can be seen celebrating Shubman’s knock.

Team India’s superstar batter Virat Kohli showered praises on Gill and said: “I would call it outstanding, especially considering that the next-best score was not even 40. And the fact that he got a double hundred was a knock at a very, very high level. I think he was totally in his element today and showed why so many people have been saying so many great things about him for years, and I wish him all the best. I hope that he builds on this, and today was just a privilege to watch him bat. It was an outstanding knock.”

Rahul Dravid, who was also the head coach of Shubman’s U-19 team that won the 2018 World Cup, also hailed his performance and said: “Just achieving his potential. Many more to go.”
