India staged an impressive turnaround in the five-match Test series against England by winning the second Test match with a margin of 106 runs. The star player for India was bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who took nine wickets throughout the game. He particularly shone in the first innings, where he dismantled the core of the England batting line-up by taking six wickets.
Additionally, Bumrah created history by becoming the first bowler to hold the number-one spot in the ICC Rankings across all formats of the game.
Aakash Chopra Sends A Bold Message To Jasprit Bumrah
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra, in a video on his YouTube channel, mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah shouldn’t be given a rest for the third Test match beginning on February 15. Chopra emphasized that Bumrah is a valuable asset for the nation and suggested that he should be handled with care.
Aakash Chopra also noted that although it’s difficult for cricketers to take breaks, Bumrah could consider resting during the Indian Premier League if needed. He said:
“I would say he won’t rest at all. To be very honest, he shouldn’t be rested as well, although a lot of people don’t agree with me on this. They say Bumrah should be rested and be kept in cotton wool as he is a national asset and a treasure.”
He added: “I agree with all of that but ultimately, a cricketer has to play. You will have to play Test matches because you are absolute gold dust and we don’t want to play without you. That’s what I believe. You can rest in the IPL if you want. It’s absolutely okay.”

Before the third Test match between India and England, there were rumors of Jasprit Bumrah being rested, but he’s been named vice-captain for the upcoming games. Bumrah has had injury issues but made a strong comeback last year. He performed exceptionally well in the ODI World Cup 2023 and during India’s tour of South Africa. The Indian team faces challenges with the middle-order batting, but KL Rahul’s return could boost their strength. Currently, the series stands at 1-1, with England winning the first match and India aiming for a win in Rajkot to take the lead.
