Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Shafiqullah Shafaq scored 214 runs in a T20 game, in a local tournament, Paragon Nangarhar Champion Trophy in Afghanistan. Playing for the Khateez Cricket Academy, Shafaq smashed 214 runs from just 71 balls smashing 21 sixes and 16 fours against the Kabul Star Cricket Club team.
With the help of Shafaq’s blistering innings, Khateez Cricket Academy smashed 351runs in just 20 overs. Shafiq got support from his partner at the end Waheedullah Shafaq who scored 81 from 31 balls smacking 10 fours and 3 sixes.
In reply to Khateez’s huge total, the Star Cricket Club were wrapped up for just 107 runs and lost the game by a huge total of 244 runs. In an interview to crictracker.com, Shafiqullah has confirmed his achievement and expressed that he is happy to have played such a knock with his brother for company.
Shafaq has been a regular member in Afghanistan national side since 2012 and he has featured in the last three ICC World T20s; 2012, 2014 and 2016. He also played in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which was held in England.
Shafaq is a very free following batsman who likes putting attack on the opposition by playing counter-attacking cricket. He has a wide range of orthodox and unorthodox strokes. Not long ago, he smashed a 28-ball fifty in an ODI match against Ireland, equaling Mohammad Nabi’s record for the fastest fifty in ODIs for Afghanistan.
