“14 Crores To Help CSK Use Benched Talents”: Angry Fans Troll Deepak Chahar

Since being bought by CSK for INR 14 crore in the IPL 2022 mega-auction, pacer Deepak Chahar has missed 17 of the 20 matches CSK have played due to injuries.

He missed the entirety of the IPL 2022 due to a back injury and a side strain. He was laid off for six months due to that last year and made his return later on. His back injury resurfaced and he missed the T20 World Cup 2022.

He made his return to the IPL this year and was supposed to lead their pace attack, having more responsibility after Bravo had retired and Mukesh Choudhary was ruled out due to a back injury.

However, injuries weren’t leaving him for long. He had overcome the early rustiness of coming from an injury before another injury – a hamstring this time – struck him.

In his 3rd game of the season, against Mumbai Indians, Deepak Chahar left the field after bowling the first over.

Deepak Chahar

He’s bowled 9 overs in the IPL 2023 and has failed to take a single wicket. So basically, Deepak Chahar has not taken a single wicket for CSK since the franchise bought him for INR 14 crore in the IPL 2022 mega-auction, the most amount they have ever spent on a single player in any auction.

It has been learned that Deepak Chahar has resumed bowling in the nets, but only at slow pace and taking tentative steps. He is unlikely to make comeback on the field in the next week or so.

He missed today’s fixture against SRH and fans trolled him badly for that.

Here are some of the tweets, including memes and jokes on Deepak Chahar:

At the start of the IPL 2023, Deepak Chahar had said that injuries have been mentally tough for him and he’s had a stop-start career in recent times due to unfortunate injuries.

“Mentally it’s very tough. I had two major injuries, which are critical for a fast bowler. Other pacers are also struggling with a stress fracture in the back. It takes a long time to recover from that,” Chahar had said.

“When you start playing it takes time to get back to your best, it takes time mentally and physically, and I’m getting there slowly.”
