Former India batsman Aakash Chopra made a plea to the BCCI to make investments in retractable roofs following the washout of the fifth and series-deciding T20I between India and South Africa on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
The grand finale of this five-match series had been hyped up and set up nicely. Sadly, only for rain to play spoilsport and wash out the game which saw only 3.3 overs being bowled. The series then ended level at 2-2, which meant South Africa continue to keep their proud record of not losing a limited-overs bilateral series in India since 2010!
Fan share roof leakage video after Aakash Chopra’s tweet
Aakash Chopra took to Twitter to highlight the importance of having a couple of stadiums with retractable roofs so that important matches don’t get washed out. Especially, he added, given the BCCI is making so much money after bagging the $6.2 billion IPL media rights.
“Indian cricket must invest in a couple of stadia with a retractable roof…with the quantum of broadcast monies flowing in, it’s imperative to take the weather out of the equation. As much as you can,” Chopra tweeted.

While Chopra got support from many followers, one fan shared the video of the already poor state of the Chinnaswamy Stadium room as the rain fell down through it and made lives difficult for the spectators.
Furious reactions came out after this video went viral:
they can’t even install hotspot technology, you telling them construct stadiums with roof

Retractable roof door ki baat hai sir, this is the kind of roof under which we fans were waiting during the rain!! High time @BCCI used all the money they have earned to give fans a better experience at the stadiums first! pic.twitter.com/QqKk2dhDp1

BCCI earning in billions, it time to invest money in improving cricket. Others board not earning as much as bcci but they they still have a better stadium. Foreign stadium look much more beautiful. Leave Ahmedabad stadium.

Totally agree with u,,, with so much money flowing in, infrastructure needs to revamped,,, a couple of broadcast match incomes can cover up such costs. Start with some prominent grounds,,, and in current season in India,,, u can’t ignore rains

Though the toss happened as scheduled – Keshav Maharaj, standing in for the injured Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to field – a drizzle forced the match to start 50 minutes late with 19-over per said.
Ishan Kishan attacked Maharaj right from the second ball, clattering two sixes on the leg side before being bowled by a slower yorker by Lungi Ngidi. Ruturaj Gaikwad batted at a pedestrian rate for his 10 runs off 12 balls and was dismissed by another slower one from Ngidi, lobbing a dolly to Pretorious at mid-on.
The drizzle started once again as skipper Rishabh Pant came in and got heavier with Pant scoring a single of his first ball before the umpires asked the players to leave the field. The drizzle turned into a full shower. The weather gods didn’t relent for the next couple of hours and the match officials finally called the game off, with the series being shared.
