Suryakumar Yadav got trolled mercilessly on social media for his knock off 18 runs in 28 balls in the World Cup 2023 final against Australia.
The pitch at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad for the final was a very dry on, on which batting proved to be really difficult especially as the ball got older. India ended with a total of 240 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 18 runs in 28 balls with one boundary to his name, managing a strike rate of only 64 even while batting in the death overs. The criticism of the fans toward Suryakumar stemmed from him exposing India’s tailenders to the Australian bowlers instead of farming strike.
During his knock, Suryakumar Yadav gave strikes to Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav instead of keeping the strike to himself and aiming for some boundaries. Eventually, Bumrah got out to Zampa, while Kuldeep survived stern spells from Starc and Hazlewood, both of whom got the ball reverse-swinging.
Fans lamented Suryakumar’s lack of game awareness and of him not taking initiative in looking for boundaries.
