Virat Kohli Salary

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain and star batsman Virat Kohli is currently the leading run-scorer in the history of the IPL.

Having played all the 15 editions for RCB – Kohli is the only player to have played all 15 IPL seasons for one single team – the 34-year-old has amassed 6411 runs in 216 IPL games, averaging 36 with a strike rate of 129.

The right-hander has smashed 5 hundreds to go with 42 half-centuries in his illustrious IPL career, and has stroked 557 fours and 212 sixes in the competition.

However, Virat Kohli and RCB still remain trophyless; Kohli and RCB have reached 3 IPL finals – 2009, 2011, and 2016 – but lost all 3 of them.

Nonetheless, Virat Kohli has been one of the, if not the biggest icons of the IPL with broadcasters and sponsors feeding off his success, his stardom, and his craze among the fans. In turn, Virat Kohli has been amongst the highest-paid players in the IPL since he took over RCB’s captaincy and has been retained in the highest-paid bracket by RCB over the last three IPL cycles.

Virat Kohli salary in the IPL 2023:

Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli is currently on a contract worth INR 15 crore for IPL 2023.

He was retained as the first pick ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auction for INR 15 crore and will carry the same salary in IPL 2023.

This is 2 crores down from the INR 17 crore per season salary he drew from IPL 2018 to 2021. Virat Kohli is the first player in the IPL history to fetch a salary of INR 17 crore per season.

In 2008, RCB picked up Kohli from the 2008 Under-19 World Cup winning batch for 12 lakhs, which was his salary per season for the first 3 IPL seasons. Then RCB retained Kohli in 2011 for INR 8.2 crore.

As he grew in stature and attained the captaincy post, his retention price shot up: Virat Kohli was retained in 2014 for INR 12.5 crore, and the price for his retention in 2018, when he’d turned into a global mega-star, was INR 17 crore. After stepping down as the RCB and India T20I captain, Kohli then shaved off 2 crores from his salary, making it 15 crore in 2022 and in IPL 2023.
