The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have rocked back up in the points table with a win over Mumbai Indians. Their last league game in against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). A win over KKR at the Eden Gardens will ensure LSG of a playoffs berth, and with 17 points, if they win, they could even finish in the top 2 if CSK also loses their last match.
The LSG team and staff will be wearing a special maroon-colored jersey in their last league game, against KKR, at the Eden Gardens on Saturday evening.
Why will LSG wear red/maroon jersey vs KKR?

LSG players will wear maroon jerseys against KKR to show support for Sanjeev Goenka’s ISL team Mohun Bagan.
LSG introduced a Mohun Bagan-inspired maroon jersey in a launch, which was attended by star players Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran.
The announcement was made with a special post on Instagram featuring interim skipper Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis, and Ayush Badoni.
The caption read: “Lucknow’s #GazabAndaz, now in Kolkata’s colors. Our tribute to Mohun Bagan and the City of Joy.”

The Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG company, which owns the LSG franchise, bought a majority stake in Football club ATK Mohun Bagan in June 2020. The famous Kolkata-based football club will be renamed as Mohun Bagan Super Giants from June 1. RPSG also owns Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 competition.
RPSG’s first cricket franchise team was Rising Pune Supergiant which played in the IPL in 2016 and 2017 and reached the final in 2017.
Playoff qualification scenario for all teams:
Chennai Super Kings – 95.3% and Lucknow Super Giants – 95.3%.
Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants both have 15 points in 13 matches. A win in their last game for both will seal both of their playoff spots. A loss for RCB against SRH will also help both these teams finish in the top 4.
Mumbai Indians – 6.9%
Mumbai Indians have 14 points in 13 matches and can reach 16 points, but their NRR is much worse compared to RCB who can also reach 16 points. Both MI and RCB can qualify should they reach 16 points and one of CSK or LSG lose their last game.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 30.7%
RCB will play SRH today for their 13th game of the IPL 2023 season and they have 12 points. So they can reach 16 points at the maximum, which, given their healthy NRR, could see them through to the playoffs.
Rajasthan Royals – 6.3%, Punjab Kings – 6.3%, and KKR – 5.2%
RR, KKR, and PBKS all three have 12 points in 13 matches. Only two of them can reach 14 points as PBKS face RR next. But even then they can be eliminated if MI and RCB or one of them also reach 16 points. RR, KKR, and PBKS need to win their last game and pray for a number of other results to go their way.
