Indian cricket has always been blessed with some of the finest players who have graced this game. Among them, the country has also seen some of the best left-handers who have earned a name for themselves. Left-handed batsmen are always pleasing to the eye. Fortunately, India has produced some of such elegant stroke makers who can form the all-time Indian ODI XI.
Here’s a look at the all-time Indian ODI playing XI for left-handers:
1. Openers: Sourav Ganguly (C) and Shikhar Dhawan

Sourav Ganguly has been one of India’smost successful openers in ODI cricket. The ‘Prince of Bengal’ will also lead this ODI XI. Shikhar Dhawan, the current Indian opener will partner Ganguly to open the batting for India. Dhawan has been an asset to the Indian at the top of the order while Ganguly mastered the art of opening in ODIs during his tenure as a cricketer.
2. Middle-order: Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina
Gautam Gambhir is an obvious choice at No.3 in this left-hander’s ODI XI. Gambhir had a really successful ODI career for India and delivered on occasions when it mattered the most. The duo of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina might even make way in India’s all-time ODI XI at No.4 and No.5. Two of them played a lot of cricket together and tasted enough success while batting in the middle-order for India. Both have the ability to finish games with their ability to go berserk at the back end of the innings.
3. Wicket-keeper: Parthiv Patel
Parthiv Patel will play as the wicket-keeper batsman in the ODI XI. While Parthiv has played under the shadow of MS Dhoni for a majority of his career, the Gujarat-lad has proved whenever given a chance in the limited-over format. He will bat at No.6 and can even be promoted to bat higher up the order when needed.
4. All-rounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Irfan Pathan
The dynamic duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Irfan Pathan will claim the two all-rounder’s spot in the team. Jadeja has re-invented himself as a multi-utility cricketer for India in the recent past. He’s express quick in the field and continued to deliver with the bat and ball in hand. On the other hand, Pathan has been one of India’s best bowling all-rounder in ODIs. He had the ability to swing the new ball and could even use his willow to manufacture some handy runs in the lower-order.
5. Bowlers: Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, RP Singh
The fast-bowling responsibility will be shared by the trio of Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, and RP Singh. In ODIs, Zaheer was excellent both with the new and the old ball. He will receive support from Nehra and RP Singh, who were good at bowling through the middle-overs. Both Zaheer and Nehra can even take the onus to deliver the goods in the death overs.
