The IPL 2020 Auction turned out to be really unexpected for some reason. The auction for the cash-rich league started with a bang with cricketers including Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Aaron Finch got more than what they might have hoped for. Pat Cummins, the talented speedster had set the IPL 2020 auction on ablaze.
On Thursday, Pat Cummins created history by becoming the most expensive overseas player. With the base price of Rs. 2 crores, has been sold to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs. 15.5 crore in the IPL 2020 auction in Kolkata.
The whopping price at which Pat Cummins was bought made many jaws drop. Meanwhile, BCCI’s President Sourav Ganguly justified the huge amount that Pat Cummins got in the auction. Talking to timesnownews.com Sourav Ganguly vindicated the price KKR paid to get Pat Cummins in action. He said:
“No, I don’t think (Cummins’ price being too high). It has a lot to do with demand. Especially these small auctions bringing players in go after go. Ben Stokes became a part of this small auction and that’s why his value went off the roof of 14 crores,”
He added:
“KKR on this hard, green pitch at Eden where there are pace and bounce for the fast bowlers. I think there was a competition between Delhi Capitals and KKR till the last, and Delhi Capitals gave up after a certain point (Rs15 crore). So, I think it’s about supply and demand all the time,”
Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly also went on to pick his fantasy XI for the next year’s IPL edition, where he picked Rishabh Pant over MS Dhoni for the position of wicket-keeper. His fantasy XI included:
Sourav Ganguly (captain), Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Rishabh Pant, Andre Russell, Jasprit Bumrah, Riyan Parag, Marcus Stoinis, Jofra Archer, Ravindra Jadeja.
