IPL 2023: 10 Funniest Memes From RCB’s Win Over Mumbai Indians: The Royal Challengers Bangalore have kick-started their IPL 2023 campaign with a bang: an 8-wicket win over 5-time champions Mumbai Indians have filled the hearts of the Royal Challengers Bangalore fans with promise and hope and expectation.
The capacity-packed M.Chinnaswamy Stadium was at its noisiest, the crowd reached a deafening crescendo when Kohli smashed left-arm seamer Arshad Khan for a six over long-on – in his own style celebrating 12 years of India’s 2011 World Cup winning six from MS Dhoni – to complete the chase of 172 runs with 8 wickets in hand and 22 balls to spare. That was as emphatic a victory as Bangalore based franchise would have hoped for to get their tournament underway.
After being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians continued to suffer from the top-order woes that plagued them last season. The top 3 of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Cameron Green were dismissed with only 20 runs on the board. Concerns mounted when Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for only 15.
Tilak Varma, as he often did last season after failures of top 3, carried the side and in process showed a remarkable blend of maturity and aggression, pacing his innings superbly with wickets falling around. He got some support from debutant Nehal Wadhera, who scored 21 off 13. Tilak Varma scored 84 unbeaten runs off 46 balls to take MI to a competitive total of 171.
How competitive that total was going to be was to be recognized by the opening pair of Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Both the veteran batters batted like dream and found it a bit too easy to tackle the MI bowlers, including Jofra Archer and Piyush Chawla as the ball came onto the bat nicely.
Runs flew for Royal Challengers Bangalore from both ends as the crowd enjoyed the night thoroughly. The 50 partnership was brought up in the 6th over and the century stand in the 11th over with the chase effectively sealed by the duo. They carried on before Challengers Bangalore lost Du Plessis 73(43) and Dinesh Karthik 0(3). But there was no way Kohli and Maxwell were giving any sniff to MI to make a comeback.
Maxwell smoked a couple of sixes before Virat Kohli (82*off 49) finished it off in style to take RCB to their first win of the season.
This led to a spate of memes on Twitter on the Mumbai Indians’ embarrassing loss and RCB’s giant victory:
