IPL 2023 is just around the corner. On March 31, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will play their first game in Ahmedabad. Many important players from different franchises have been injured in advance of the 16th season of the Indian Premier League, and some are questionable starts. Let’s look at the names mentioned in this particular story.
Will Jacks – RCB:
Will Jacks, a rising talent for England, will not play in the IPL 2023 because of a muscular ailment he just suffered while playing for England in Bangladesh. Michael Bracewell of New Zealand, an all-arounder, has taken his place.
Jasprit Bumrah – MI:
Over the past six months, Jasprit Bumrah has been dealing with a back problem. He has been absent from high-profile competitions including the Asia Cup 2022, the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, and several bilateral series. He won’t play in the IPL in 2023 either, which is a major setback for MI.
Rishabh Pant – DC:
While Rishabh Pant is still healing from injuries he incurred in a vehicle accident in December of last year, the Delhi Capitals will be without their captain this season.
Jhye Richardson – MI:
The injury to Australian Jhye Richardson has dealt MI another setback. Due to the hamstring issue that keeps recurring, Richardson also missed the tour to India.
Jonny Bairstow – PBKS:
Jonny Bairstow, an English batsman who had surgery on his ankle and leg in September, will be fully recovered in a few weeks, but he is unable to fly to India for the IPL since the ECB has not awarded him the NOC necessary to compete in franchise-based competitions. Before the Ashes and the World Cup, the ECB does not want to take any chances with his fitness.
Shreyas Iyer – KKR:
KKR captain Shreyas Iyer is suffering a back issue. In the past year or so, the back of the Indian batter has seen numerous problems. In order to play in the second half of the IPL, he has chosen not to have surgery and is currently finishing up his rehabilitation. His return date has not yet been updated.
Mohsin Khan – LSG:
Mohsin Khan was influential in Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) reaching the playoffs in IPL 2022. He had picked up 14 wickets in 9 games in IPL 2022. But the pacer might not be available for Lucknow-based franchise in IPL 2023 due to an injury.
Mukesh Chaudhary – CSK:
CSK’s left-arm pacer Mukesh Chaudhary is down with back injury. He is currently at NCA in Bengaluru doing his rehab work. Chaudhary bagged 16 wickets from 13 matches last year and CSK CEO is not too hopeful about his return to the squad for IPL 2023.
