The 8th match of the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) turned out to be a thriller. Punjab Kings won the nail-biting game by 5 runs.
Rajasthan Royals, who were the runners-up in the previous edition of the cash-rich league, opened their campaign in IPL 2023 with a great win in their first game against SunRisers Hyderabad, which they won by 72 runs. They were hoping to record their second-straight win in the IPL 2023 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, however, Shikhar Dhawan and his men were the absolute best in the game last night.

Talking about the PBKS vs RR match, Dhawan enjoyed an amazing partnership with youngster Prabhsimran Singh. Prabhsimran played a sublime knock of 60 off 34 balls. Riding on the stellar knocks of Prabhsimran and Dhawan guided Punjab Kings to a challenging total of 197-4 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Samson played an entertaining knock of 42 off 25 balls and RR’s impact player Dhruv Jurel remained unbeaten on 32 off 15 balls. However, Samson and Jurel’s efforts went in vain as they failed to chase down the runs.
“We started off really well, we finished the powerplay really well. In the middle overs, we were expecting to get the boundaries here and there but they bowled really well. That’s where I think the momentum went a bit down. We did well to get so close also after the fall in our run rate. We just fell short of a six, just one ball hit away,” Sanju Samson told reporters at the post-match press conference.
