For match number 9 of IPL 2023, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are hosting the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the iconic Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 6th, 2023.
In their first match under new captain Nitish Rana, the Kolkata Based Franchise went down by only 7 runs (DLS) to the Punjab Kings in Mohali. Faf du Plessis’ RCB team, on the other hand, is coming off a convincing win over the Mumbai Indians at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium. Chasing 172, openers Faf du Plessis (73 off 43) and Virat Kohli (82 off 49) made light work of the target.

Impact Player rule in IPL 2023:
The Indian Premier League 2023 also sees, for the first time in the competition’s history, the Impact Player rule. The BCCI has decided to introduce this new rule as it believes this will add a new tactical, strategic dimension to the game. A number of team sports in the world like football, rugby, basketball, and baseball allow teams to make tactical substitutions where the substitute is allowed to perform or participate like any other regular player.
Every captain will have to nominate 5 substitutes and any one of them can be used as the team’s Impact and can bring that player into play at any time in the match – be it before the start of the second innings of the match; at the end of an over; at the fall of a wicket or when a batter retires.
