In match number 3 of IPL 2023, the Lucknow Super Giants are hosting the Delhi Capitals at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, in the second game of Saturday doubleheader.
KL Rahul’s LSG had reached the playoffs last season, finishing 3rd in the points table, before losing to RCB in the Eliminator, while Rishabh Pant’s DC failed to reach the playoffs, missing by only 2 points.
This year, Delhi Capitals will be led by David Warner in the absence of the injured Rishabh Pant
Warner had a good luck start as he won the toss in Lucknow and elected to bowl first.
Both the teams are missing some key players for today’s match – Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi of Delhi Capitals along with Quinton de Kock of Lucknow Super Giants are playing in the ODI series vs Netherlands. Lucknow Super Giants are also without the injured Mohsin Khan.

Impact Player rule in IPL 2023:
The IPL 2023 also sees, for the first time in the competition’s history, the Impact Player rule. The BCCI has decided to introduce this new rule as it believes this will add a new tactical, strategic dimension to the game. A number of team sports in the world like football, rugby, basketball, and baseball allow teams to make tactical substitutions where the substitute is allowed to perform or participate like any other regular player.
Every captain will have to nominate substitutes and any one of them can be used as the team’s Impact Player and can bring that player into play at any time in the match – be it before the start of the second innings of the match; at the end of an over; at the fall of a wicket or when a batter retires.
