Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, the Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni may ponder over foraying into the field of politics this year and entering the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. He could even stand against former India teammate Gautam Gambhir in Delhi in the election.
According to a report in The New Indian, there is a possibility of a meeting being setup between Tamil Nadu’s chief minister M K Stalin of the ruling DMK party and MS Dhoni.
Three days ago, DMK announced they are looking for a candidate for the Lok Sabha polls, scheduled for in the coming months. The report in The New Indian says that DMK is willing to get MS Dhoni on board and even put him face-to-face with his 2011 World Cup-winning teammate Gautam Gambhir, who is the BJP MP from East Delhi.
DMK’s general secretary Duraimurgan was quoted as saying, “We have just formed a three-member team for inviting applications. As far as Dhoni is concerned, he shares a special bond with Chennai because of his participation in the IPL as captain of the Chennai SuperKings. We don’t have anything much to say.”
The IPL 2024 is very likely going to be the last IPL season for MS Dhoni, who is already 42 years of age and dealt with a knee injury throughout the last season, despite that he took CSK to their fifth IPL title.
While BJP has been holding rallies in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Pollachi, DMK is looking to enter Delhi, and they perhaps feel that MS Dhoni, one of the most popular and doted celebrities in the country, is their best bet for that.
There is also an alleged rivalry between Dhoni and Gambhir, at least the fans feel that the two former India legends don’t get along well. DMK perhaps wants to build their campaign with Dhoni, if he gets on board, on that rivalry.
