Though, he might have stepped down from the position of captaincy, but MS Dhoni continues to guide the new CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad during matches. However, in the aftermath of CSK’s defeat against LSG, Navjot Singh Sidhu criticized Dhoni.
This criticism arose after Ambati Rayudu’s comments about Ruturaj Gaikwad’s perceived lack of experience sparked a debate among commentators.
Navjot Singh Slammed Ambati Rayudu For Criticizing Ruturaj Gaikwad
Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is known for his candid commentary and outspoken demeanor, took a dig at MS Dhoni following CSK’s defeat. He suggested that the former captain should shoulder some of the responsibility for the team’s subpar performance in the game.
Criticising Ruturaj Gaikwad, former CSK player Ambati Rayudu said: ” Poor field placements in deaths overs by Ruturaj. We clearly saw a lack of experience as captain”
Responding to this, Sidhu said: “If you credit dhoni for CSK wins then blame him for the losses too. Dhoni is still the main think tank.”
For the unversed, Dhoni, who led Chennai Super Kings since the inception of the league in 2008 and steered them to five IPL titles, passed the CSK captaincy to Gaikwad a day before their IPL opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Speaking on the #AskStar show on Star Sports, Navjot Singh Sidhu claimed that Dhoni is still leading the side. He said:
“If you talk about Ruturaj, he is still under the shadow of Dhoni. You can say as many times that Dhoni is not captaining, but ultimately he is leading the side. ‘Bargad ke neeche kya uga hai, uga kar dikhao. When Dhoni leaves, there might be no shadow of him.”
Sidhu also emphasized that it’s only fair to evaluate a captain’s performance after he has led the team through nearly 50 matches.
