All-rounder Shivam Dube has made a blockbuster return to the Indian team in the T20I series against Afghanistan at home. Such has been Dube’s impact on the two games, both of which India won, the fans are championing his name as the apt replacement for Hardik Pandya.
As a seam-bowling all-rounder, Shivam Dube has provided the team with the balance the Indian team craved in Pandya’s injury-forced absence.
Dube started off the series with a 60-run unbeaten knock in 40 balls and took one wicket in Mohali. In the second T20I, in Indore, the left-hander tore into the Afghanistan bowlers with his sensational hitting, which included a hat-trick of sixes to Mohammad Nabi. He scored 63* unbeaten runs in 32 balls as India made a mockery of the target of 173 runs. He also scalped the wicket of Azmatullah Omarzai.
The 30-year-old seems to be in his peak form over the past year. Last year, he played a crucial role in CSK lifting their fifth IPL trophy. Put in the role of a spin-basher by MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming in IPL 2023, Shivam Dube scored 418 runs at a strike rate of 158. He notched up three half-centuries last season, the same as he did in the four previous seasons combined.
