India’s ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin impressed one and all with his brilliant performance in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand, in which he took 27 wickets. By virtue of his stellar performance, Ashwin has now replaced South Africa’s speedster Dale Steyn as the no. 1 Test bowler in the latest ICC Test Rankings.
Ashwin, who is arguably the best spinner in world cricket at the moment, is also the third quickest bowler in Test cricket history to pick 20 five-wicket hauls. Ravi Ashwin has played 39 Tests for India and he has picked 21 five-wicket hauls.
Ashwin is also the fastest Asian bowler to pick 100 wickets in Test cricket. Faiza Lakhani, a well known Pakistani sports journalist, on Wednesday posted a tweet where he reminded the cricket fans that Yasir Shah was just five wickets away from breaking Ashwin’s record of becoming the fastest Asian spinner to reach 100 Test wickets.
Yasir Shah has 95 wickets to his credit from 16 Tests, and is only five wickets away from becoming the quickest from Asia to reach the 100 wickets milestone. Ashwin completed 100 wickets in his 18th Test match.
Ravichandran Ashwin who is mostly very active on Twitter, responded to Faizan Lakhani’s tweet with a brilliant message that read, “good luck, may the force be with him.He is such a delight to watch.”
