Robin Uthappa Will Play For A New Team This Year

One of the more popular players from Karnataka over the past few years has to undoubtedly be Robin Uthappa.

The right-handed batsman and keeper, Robin Uthappa, has been in good touch for his domestic side despite not playing for India at the highest level for quite some time. His performances in the IPL too show that he is an asset to any team that he plays in.

Robin Uthappa handed in a request for his departure to the SCA media manager in an interview with the Ahmedabad Mirror. He also said that the association will take a call after discussing with the coach and the captain of the team.

He stepped down as a player for the Karnataka team after being dropped for plenty of matches during his time as a Karnataka player last year.

Long-time partnership:

Robin Uthappa has been part of the Karnataka setup for more than a decade and a half after having represented them in plenty of matches across various age groups.  He also applied for an NOC from the KSCA and they provided him with one.

Robin Uthappa will be looking to improve on his appearances after last season and is in talks with the Saurashtra team. It was widely reported that he might appear for the Kerala cricket team considering his mother’s side is from the state, but Uthappa decided to bolster his chances by moving to Saurashtra. The domestic team are already missing the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja who are both on national duty.

Robin Uthappa was a big run-getter for the Karnataka team during the 2014-15 as well as the 2015-16 season. He did not have the best of runs in the last season however, which led to him featuring in lesser matches.

The new domestic venture should give him a fresh breath of life as he looks for one final push for a place in the Indian squad before calling it a day.
