IPL 2023: Rohit Sharma Broke Virat Kohli’s Record With His Match-winning Knock Against DC

Mumbai Indians thrashed Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets on Tuesday (April 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to register their first win of the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. Riding on the stellar knock of captain Rohit Sharma, MI chased down the target of 173 runs on the last ball of the match to seal the victory.

Rohit top-scored for the team as he played a stunning knock of 65 runs from 45 balls. He held firm from one hand, while the wickets kept falling from the other hand. After registering two back-to-back defeats, MI made a comeback and finally opened their account in the IPL 2023.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan stitched together a 71 runs partnership in a 6-wicket win over Delhi Capitals. Both the batters looked good however a bad mix-up between the both resulted in Ishan’s dismissal at the hands of Mukesh Kumar.

After his dismissal, Tilak Varma and Rohit kept the runs flowing as the MI skipper registered his first half-century of the ongoing season. DC tried to do their best and get in a breakthrough however MI openers had already done a lot of damage already.

Towards the finishing moments, DC managed to find a small comeback in the game taking the wicket of Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rohit Sharma in quick succession. However, Tim David and Cameron Green played crucial cameos in the end and guided the team past the finish line on the very final delivery.

Meanwhile, for his brilliant performance with the bat, Rohit also received the Player of the Match award. With his knock, not just Rohit helped his side win the game but also broke an incredible record of Virat Kohli in the IPL to reach the no.1 position. With his knock, Rohit became the leading run scorer against Delhi Capitals in IPL history.

Before the game started, Virat was at the no.1 position with 925 runs to his name from 26 matches against Delhi, but with his knock of 65 runs, Rohit has leapfrogged Virat and has taken the no.1 spot. So far, Rohit has scored 977 runs off his 33 appearances against Delhi Capitals.
