Gujarat Titans‘ Sai Sudharsan produced a blistering knock against Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday. He narrowly missed a well-deserved century but helped Gujarat post a formidable total of 214/4, the highest-ever total in an IPL final.
Sai Sudharsan Played A Brilliant Knock
The 21-year-old R Sai Sudharsan, who has been a part of GT camp since the 2022 season of the IPL, has been in and out of the playing XI in the ongoing season, despite playing some valuable knocks.
Sudharsan was brought back into the team’s playing XI for the second qualifier and ever since then he has changed the fortunes of the team. He was under criticism for his strike rate, however, on Monday, as he walked out in the must-win game, he silenced everyone with his solid knock.
Sudharsan, who hails from Chennai and plays for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, played a memorable knock of 96 runs in just 47 balls. This is the highest score ever by an uncapped Indian player in the summit clash of the Indian Premier League. Sai broke the record of Manish Pandey(94) that came in the IPL 2014 final match between PBKS and KKR.
After being asked to bat first, GT lost their talismanic opener Shubman Gill early in the final, thanks to some magical stumping from MS Dhoni. Sudharsan came out of the syllabus for Chennai Super Kings.
Sudharsan was well supported by Wriddhiman Saha, who scored a half-century off his own before getting dismissed by Deepak Chahar.
Sachin Tendulkar Hailed Sai
Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with amazing reactions from cricketers and fans. However, the best tweet came from the batting legend Sachin Tendulkar himself. In his Tweet, sharing a clip of Sudharsan’s knock, Tendulkar tweeted: “Tonight, Sai was a treat to the eye!”
