Suryakumar Yadav failed to shine in any of the three ODIs against Australia or the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
After a 2-1 victory in the four-game Test series, India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2023. The series was notable for the inclusion of star Indian batter Suryakumar Kumar, who was making his Test debut.
All eyes were on the world’s best T20I batter as he made his Test debut. Unfortunately, his debut in the Nagpur Test did not go as planned, as he only scored eight runs.
After Surya’s poor performance, many questioned the team’s decision to give him his first Test cap. However, veteran Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan has spoken out in support of Surya, arguing that the team would benefit from giving him more time to learn

“Suryakumar Yadav has performed really well. He has consistently performed in the last couple of years. (He hasn’t done well) in a couple of series, which is very natural,” Dhawan said in an interview with Aaj Tak.
“If we talk about the Test match, the wickets are very different in a Test; that is the biggest challenge. When we played in India, there were turning tracks prepared because India had to win games. Things are not easy for batters, no matter how big he is,” he said.
“Not only spinning surfaces, batting is not easy on green tracks prepared for fast bowlers. The challenges increase, and that is where experience comes into play. When a youngster comes in, he doesn’t have that experience. He will fall three-four times, but he will learn from it and stand up again,” he added.
Suryakumar Yadav hopes to regain his form for the 2023 Indian Premier League season.
After being dismissed for three consecutive ducks in the recent Test and ODI series between India and Australia, the star middle-order batter will be eager to regain his form in the upcoming IPL season.
The five-time champion Mumbai Indians will have the 32-year-old back in their lineup as they look to rebound from a lacklustre 2022 season.
