In a recent interaction with reporters ahead of the 4th Test, Shubman Gill shared insights into his mindset when dealing with setbacks. Gill stressed the significance of tuning out external noise and concentrating on capitalizing on the next cricketing opportunity.

“There is always disappointment, but it was more within myself and regarding my own expectations,” Gill said at a news conference in Ranchi on Wednesday.

He added: “The outside noise didn’t really bother me. What’s important in such situations is to make the best use of the next opportunity. You have to forget the past and just focus on the next ball,”

Furthermore, Gill highlighted the significance of quickly bouncing back from previous performances, identifying it as a distinguishing factor between exceptional and ordinary players. He emphasized the need for players to uphold personal standards and play their part in the team’s achievements. He said:

“The difference between a good player and an average player is in how quickly they can forget the previous innings whether good/bad and move forward. Players who are able to do this easily are those who are great players,”

He added: “Expectations you always have from yourself. You obviously want to contribute and want to be there for the team as much as possible. I still have the same mindset as I did earlier. It’s all about putting the past behind you and reacting to the current situation.”

After a setback in the first Test in Hyderabad, India showed resilience, clinching victories in the subsequent two matches to lead the series 2-1. The upcoming fourth Test will commence at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on February 23.
