The winning juggernaut of Rohit Sharma’s Team India in World Cup 2023 continues to roll on and wipe aside whoever comes in their way. Their latest victim was the hapless Sri Lanka team, which was bundled over for a paltry total of 50 runs at the Wankhede stadium.

Less than two months after India had bowled Sri Lanka for only 50 runs in the Asia Cup 2023 final, the Indian fast bowlers once again tormented the Lankan batters to bowl them out for 55 runs.

Defending a total of 357 runs, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Pathum Nissanka on the first ball, after which Mohammed Siraj struck with three wickets. The worst was yet to come for Sri Lanka as Mohammed Shami, who had taken 9 wickets in the last 2 matches, took a 5-wicket haul – this third in the ODI World Cup – and bowled Sri Lanka out for only 55, as India recorded a massive win by 302 runs. Shami returned with figures of 5/18 in 5 overs and bagged the Player of the Match award.

Smriti Irani praised Rohit Sharma’s “Unstoppable” Team India

With 7 wins in 7 games, India became the first team to qualify for the semi-final and also remain the only side to be unbeaten so far in the tournament.

Smriti Irani, the Minister of Women and Child Development and Minister of Minority Affairs, took to Twitter to hail Rohit Sharma’s team India who have been thrilling to watch and simply been dominating most of the times in the tournament.

Smriti Irani tweeted: “7 matches, 7 wins, 1 incredible team! Bharat’s unstoppable journey in the World Cup continues, and we couldn’t be prouder. Keep pushing those boundaries champions!”

Smriti Irani’s tweet on Rohit Sharma’s Team India has gone viral.

India captain Rohit Sharma said: “Very happy knowing that we have officially qualified now. Been a good effort from the squad, when we started off in Chennai. This was our goal, to qualify first and then obviously to be in the semis and the finals. The way we approached these 7 games, it was quite clinical. Everyone put in the effort and a lot of individuals have put their hand up. Was a good challenge to put runs on the board, and that’s the kind of template you gotta have when you want to score that many runs. 350 on any pitch is a very good score.”
