England’s talented right-handed batter Joe Root put up a stellar show as he smashed his 26th Test century to help his side defeat New Zealand in the just-concluded 1st Test match at Lord’s. He brought out his best and defeated all-odds to help his side take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing three-match Test series.
Joe Root Gave A Stellar Performance
Chasing a target of 277 runs, England was reeling at 69 runs for four at one stage. However, Joe Root and Ben Stokes‘ 90-runs stand brought back momentum to the side before Stokes was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson on 54 runs. However, Root kept his calm and formed an amazing partnership of 120* runs to take England home in the first match.
Root was unbeaten on 77 runs at the end of Day 3 alongwith Ben Foakes. On Day 4 the duo gave a solid start to the side and in no time, Stokes completed his century on Day 4 of the first Test match.

Guy with 10k Test runs, ave of 50ish over 100 Tests doesn’t need a fourth-innings, target-winning 100 on his CV to prove how good he is. But it’s a sweet cherry to put on top. Immense Joe Root innings.

The way Joe Root and Ben Foakes batted and took England to victory against New Zealand is a fine demonstration of responsibility, discipline and character.
That is true professionalism.

Joe Root has a classy hundred, his first in the fourth innings of a Test, and in doing so moves to 10,000 Test runs.
Incredibly he and Alastair Cook – the only other Englishman to do so – both got there aged 31 years and 157 days. They’re the joint youngest of the 14 to make it.

A Joe Root masterclass at Lord’s.
Lost the Ashes, Stepped down as Test captain but the gritty, fighting attitude of Root in the 4th innings led the show – 115* from 170 balls including 12 fours. A champion innings from champion player. pic.twitter.com/CaqILdTHrn
