Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to form a committee to investigate a matter involving India cricketer Suresh Raina, who was seen with a girl linked to a bookie in a hotel in Dambulla few years ago.
According to Hindustan Times, the decision of forming a committee and investigate the matter was taken during an executive committee meeting on December 18 last year. The special committee will include Shammi Silva, Gamini Wickramasinghe and other office bearers.
The report added that Silva raised the issue during the meeting, saying that the media is complaining and if the Sri Lankan board had no part in the issue, then “it should protest the same”.
As per the minutes of the meeting, “Silva stated that match-fixing was a serious matter and if Lawrence Fernando (the then SLC security consultant) has not given a report to the board, then he should be contacted and inquired. The SLC president has backed the decision to form a committee for investigation.
The CCTV footage of the Indian team hotel back in 2010 showed Raina with a girl, known to be an associate of a person linked to a bookie. The then vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rajeev Shukla had clarified that the woman was Raina’s agent.
