Dhruv Jurel is having a memorable Test match in Ranchi, which is only his second Test. After scoring 90 precious runs for Team India in their first innings, which allowed England a lead of 46 runs that could have been a lot more, the youngster took a blinder of a catch to end James Anderson’s stay in England’s second innings.
James Anderson’s was the last wicket to fall in England’s second innings and needed a special catch from Dhruv Jurel, off the bowling of R Ashwin, who completed yet another five-wicket haul in Test cricket, his 35th to be precise.
Anderson couldn’t resist playing his go-to shot – the reverse sweep but it is often fatal against a bowler of Ashwin’s caliber. It was a full delivery on the stumps by Ashwin and it was in line. Anderson missed connecting with his reverse sweep and the ball hit his back leg thigh. While everyone went up in appeal for lbw, Dhruv Jurel kept his eye on the ball as it lobbed to his right after it ricocheted from Anderson’s bat after hitting his thigh.
This presence of mind, and his nimbleness, allowed Jurel to pluck a one-handed stunner. Even though the umpire perhaps gave it out lbw, India didn’t need it as Jurel and Indian players started celebrating the caught dismissal.

Jurel has been very impressive so far in his two Tests, both behind and in front of the stumps. His 90 runs helped India reach 307 runs in their first innings.
R Ashwin’s five-for and Kuldeep Yadav’s four-for helped India bowl England out for 145. India were set a target of 192 runs. In a tricky period of the last 30 minutes of play today, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal attacked the England spinners and scored 40 runs in 8 overs, cracking 5 boundaries, four coming off Rohit’s bat. India need 152 more runs to seal the series in Ranchi, before the 5th Test in Dharamsala.
