CSK captain MS Dhoni once again showed his wits when he was answering the question about why do players underperforming at other franchises suddenly start performing well after coming to CSK.
Over the past few years, there have been a number of players who played brilliantly at CSK after being released by other franchises. For example, Shane Watson, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Robin Uthappa and Tushar Deshpande. These players have helped CSK win their last three IPL trophies but were also once considered not good enough by their previous teams and had been released before CSK brought them and brought the best out of them.
MS Dhoni attended an event recently where the host, Vikram Sathaye, intriguingly asked the CSK skipper about the reason for players doing very well after arriving at his franchise.
The 42-year-old, smilingly, denied giving out the “secret”. He also cited the example of the Cola companies, explaining that they don’t reveal their strategies to others.
Question: “How can everybody come to CSK and play well from Shane Watson to Ajinkya Rahane?
MS Dhoni said: “If I say it openly then nobody would hire me, so I need to keep it a secret like all the big cola companies, they don’t give their recipe out in the public”.

MS Dhoni reveals reason behind jersey number 7
At the event, Dhoni was also asked the reason behind his number 7 jersey. Since coming into the Indian team, the Ranchi cricketer has donned the number 7 jersey. He gave another hilarious response, saying that it as on 7th July, the seventh month of the year, that his parents brought him into this world.
“That is the time or day my parents decided I would come on earth. So, I was born on the 7th of July. So July again the seventh month. 81 was the year so 8-1 = 7. So it was very easy for me to go out there when they asked me, ‘okay, what number do you want’,” the former India skipper replied.
The IPL 2024 is expected to get underway on March 22.
