A knock full of sheer class and dominance, Virat Kohli has his first fifty on the 2022 tour of England – in his second innings of the ongoing warm-up fixture versus Leicestershire at Grace Road, Leicester on Saturday.
Virat Kohli Played A Stellar Knock
On the 69th delivery he faced, Kohli drove a full delivery from pacer Navdeep Saini, who is on the tour as a net bowler and had been drafted in to play for Leicestershire along with some other Indian bowlers, a few hundred crowd at the venue erupted in joy and celebration, with drums beating so hard that the sound of it would have gone to the windows of the houses neighbouring the stadium.
The thick outside edge from Kohli’s went sent the ball racing past the second slip to the unmanned third-man fence. And while non-striker Cheteshwar Pujara scampered in hope of coming back, Kohli only jogged down knowing full and well that it was going away for four despite the slip fielder giving it a chase.
Kohli raised his bat acknowledging the crowd who in turn acknowledged his greatness, in the belief that the 70 international centuries man will break his 31-month drought of a hundred in the upcoming Edgbaston Test against the in-form England side.
Kohli’s innings comprised five classy boundaries and one wallop over the fence. Kohli had come in to bat particularly down the order in the second innings, at number 7, so that the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, those who couldn’t do much in the first innings, get a proper hit in the middle.
In the first innings, too, Virat Kohli had held the Indian innings that were falling apart early on. In the first innings, India stuttered to 81/5 when Kohli’s 33 helped them cross 120 before KS Bharat hit 70.
Twitter remained optimistic about Kohli returning to his absolute best in Edgbaston as he showed positive signs in Leicester with an entertaining, gripping half-century.
Here are some of the best tweets on Kohli’s fifty:
