Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag made a playful remark about the IPL team Punjab Kings (PBKS). He mentioned that during his time playing for the team, his performance suffered, which affected his strike rate. Virender Sehwag, known for his explosive batting, was a prominent figure in the IPL. He represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and later joined Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Despite some memorable performances, Sehwag’s stint with PBKS in IPL 2013 and 2014 was disappointing. Although PBKS reached the final in 2014, Sehwag’s batting form and the team’s overall performance were inconsistent.
In the IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings faced another setback. Despite appearing to be in a strong position, they couldn’t secure the win as they conceded runs in the final overs. The match ended in a defeat for them by 4 wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
During the game, Virender Sehwag’s commentary gained attention. He openly criticized Punjab Kings, suggesting that his own performance suffered when he played for them due to the team’s lack of success. Sehwag said:
“Jab mein Punjab mein gaya tab mera strike rate gir gaya. Woh kehte hai na ke jaisi sangati waisa behave karte ho. Toh waha ki sangati waisi hi thi. Jeet te the nahi, khel te acha the nahi, toh mera game aur thoda kharab ho gaya.”

In a total of 105 matches, Virender Sehwag scored 2728 runs at a strike rate of 155.44. Despite serving as Punjab’s mentor from 2016 to 2018, the team’s fortunes didn’t change, and they are still waiting to clinch their first IPL title after 16 seasons.
